One of the more common chilli pepper varieties, Jalapenos are prized for their significant, but not overpowering heat and earthy-grassy flavour.
Though dried jalapenos are quite common, they are usually also smoked turning them into Chipotle Chilli’s.
Unsmoked dried jalapenos and unsmoked jalapeno chilli powder are much less common.
The Jalapeno (hah-lah-PEH-nyoh) is probably the most widely known and used hot pepper. Jalapenos are tapered, about 2 inches in length and have slight cracks at their stem ends. Much like a green bell pepper at times being very hot, with a bite that you notice immediately.
The Jalapeno is very versatile and is used atop any dish where a little “extra” heat is needed and/or desired.
