HEAT LEVEL: 3-5/10
The Mulato Pepper is a mild to medium chilli originating from Mexico, and is usually sold dried. It has an average heat level of around 2,500 SHU’s. The Mulato is larger than most dried chillies, and usually just one or two is required in most family sized meals.
The Mulato can be used in every Mexican dish imaginable, and is also popular in Spanish and Portuguese cuisines too. Its flavour is described as somewhat like chocolate or liquorice, with undertones of cherry and tobacco.
Although not necessary, soaking your Mulatos in warm water prior to use creates the most amazing base stock that can be used in any Latino type sauces, soups, or basically any “wet” food.
WARNING: Always wash your hands after use
